Bank of Industry. The idea
The worldwide financial crisis has exposed the greed and mis-management in the banking system. Famous banking names, lost after many years. Greed and a culture of bonuses for anything that could be sold, which in the end are worthless, have brought the world to it's knees. Now we all suffer. Lost jobs, repossessed homes, reduced pensions, broken family life, the list goes on.
The spotlight is brightly focused on banks, and many have taken government (tax payers) money to survive, now they do nothing. Want a loan, often the answer is NO, and if you have a credit line it is cut back. I heard of a successful company, with a good order book, having it's credit line reduced to 1/10 of the original.
The Plan
A bank is created by your countries government, called the "Bank of Industry" Managed and staffed by ex-bankers that have been shown not to have taken any part in the financial meltdown. So far so good.
The bank only lends to national industry, with suitable lines of credit. It is not permitted to speculate on the stock market, or sell swaps, derivatives, in essence it is a co-operative, by the members for the members.
This bank is owned by all the members of industry, so industry is lending to industry and will police bad members, and is not subject to the local bank manager. If your government wanted to boost the economy, it would lend money at the current banking rate. The power of the internet would be utilized to operate the system. Want a loan? the system can already check your credit rating, tax affairs, and has sufficient data to approve lines of credit.
Existing banks can then concentrate providing banking services to the private
individual. So what do you think? join the debate below and lets see how this develops. If you need to contact me, you can do so here. I have not created a special contact for this debate.

Good idea, I know in Germany, many banks have investments in German companies, perhaps this is the reason confidence has already returned and the recession is not so deep.

No, we already have too many Banks
A very successful bank
The Grameen Bank () is a microfinance organization and community development bank started in Bangladesh that makes small loans (known as microcredit or "grameencredit" Grameen Bank What is Microcredit) to the impoverished without requiring collateral. The word "Grameen", derived from the word "gram" or "village", means "of the village". The system of this bank is based on the idea that the poor have skills that are under-utilized. A group-based credit approach is applied which utilizes the peer-pressure within the group to ensure the borrowers follow through and use caution in conducting their financial affairs with strict discipline, ensuring repayment eventually and allowing the borrowers to develop good credit standing. The bank also accepts deposits, provides other services, and runs several development-oriented businesses including fabric, telephone and energy companies. Another distinctive feature of the bank's credit program is that a significant majority of its borrowers are women.
The origin of Grameen Bank can be traced back to 1976 when Professor Muhammad Yunus, a Fulbright scholar at Vanderbilt University and Professor at University of Chittagong, launched a research project to examine the possibility of designing a credit delivery system to provide banking services targeted to the rural poor. In October 1983, the Grameen Bank Project was transformed into an independent bank by government legislation. The organization and its founder, Muhammad Yunus, were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006; the organisation's Low-cost Housing Programme won a World Habitat Award in 1998.

Wikipedia's view of Banks
Category: File - :TaiwanCooperativeBank.JPG|220px|right|thumb|Taiwan Cooperative Bank?Taipei headquarters?
A bank is a financial institution that accepts deposits and channels those deposits into lending activities. Banks primarily provide financial services to customers while enriching investors. Government restrictions on financial activities by banks vary over time and location. Banks are important players in financial markets and offer services such as investment funds and loans. In some countries such as Germany, banks have historically owned major stakes in industrial corporations while in other countries such as the United States banks are prohibited from owning non-financial companies. In Japan, banks are usually the nexus of a cross-share holding entity known as the keiretsu. In France, bancassurance is prevalent, as most banks offer insurance services (and now real estate services) to their clients.
The level of government regulation of the banking industry varies widely, with countries such as Iceland, having relatively light regulation of the banking sector, and countries such as China having a wide variety of regulations but no systematic process that can be followed typical of a communist system.
